Meet Founder of Coach Music Academy: Alanna Deutrom

Hey my name is Alanna, I am the Founder of Coach Music Academy. I want share with you my story and why Coach exists...

Alanna Deutrom

I have had a long journey so to avoid boring you with the details I’ll cut a long story short. I have always been a  singer/songwriter. Singing has taken me to Nashville, New York, and London to work with some of the world’s most renowned producers, songwriters and industry leaders - all before I was 18 years old. I didn’t live a usual teenage life - I was jet setting around the world while my friends studied for their VCE. My path was a little different..

My journey so far:

Girlfriend of the year Alanna 15 performs and interveiw for Sydney Model Search.

At 12 years old I won a massive contest with Pepsi for a song I pinned for Delta Goodrem

At 14 I was titled Girlfriend Magazine's,  ‘Girl of the Year’.

Alanna hit London to record her International Debut album with World leading producer/songwriter Tom Nichols. Check out the exclusive footage here on YOUTUBE!

At 16 I signed a deal in London and travelled back and forth writing, recording and building my career.

At 19 years old I left my contract in London and became an independent musician here in Melbourne.

So far 'The Schools Tour 2012' has taken Alanna to Frankston High School, Hume Secondary College, Bialik Secondary College, Cheltenham Secondary College and Pascoe Vale Girls College. Check out some of the fun moments from each school!

By the time I was 20 I was touring Victorian high schools, raising money for The Reach Foundation and promoting my music.

At 20 I made the top 100 on The Voice. But no chairs turned around!

At 21 I became a Country Music singer, worked in Nashville, recorded my debut country single which hit number 3 on the Australian Country Music charts and before I knew it I was presenting Kasey Chambers with a Golden Guitar Award in Tamworth.

At 22 I travelled Europe and fell in love.

Australian music icon Molly Meldrum sat down with The Coach Couch for an intimate one time only interview. Molly is widely known for his involvement in the Music Industry as a record producer, popular music critic, journalist, and musical entrepreneur. He has been referred to as "The single most important person in the Australian pop industry for forty years". He is raw, interesting, and has more stories than your Grandma at Christmas time. His life is legendary and even though he is modest to admit it he is an icon. He shared intimate stories of his favourite moments including meeting the Queen (thats the Queen of England FYI), his time on countdown, his opinion on gay marriage and his passion and love for music, sport and Ziggy (his furry companion who he doesn't go anywhere without).

At 23 I had a turning point in my life and went back to school. I completed my Diploma in Event Management and that year I worked as an Intern for various event companies in Melbourne.

At 24 I started The Coach Couch which is a Live Talk Show event. I interviewed successful and inspiring people and the last event we did I interviewed Molly Meldrum to 150 people.

With the many highs and lows of following a career path in the entertainment industry, I have learned so much, grown so much and now I am able to give back so much! In January of 2017, I launched Coach Music Academy. From the time I was 17 I was teaching guitar and voice and it was my part-time passion while I focused on my career. Little did I know it would become my full-time gig!

Now I run the day-to-day operations of the business and weekly I coach my talented students. I have 7 other coaches working for closely with me that believe in our vision, and together we are building such a supportive and positive community!

  • We have studios in Frankston, Narre Warren, Sydenham, and Werribee.

Poppy is 6 here and Brit is in her late 20s. Same dream, same passion but so different!

Why do I do what I do? I love my job because I get to give back, as coaches we help our students be the best performers and people they can be, we get to be the light in their week. How could anyone complain about a job like that?

Why does Coach exist? Coach exists because I want to change the way we learn music, I want singing and expression to be a normal part of our week and I thought it was time to make learning to sing 'cool'. Especially for boys!

The dream team

The dream team

Coach is driven by wanting to create a clear pathway for our students to achieve whatever they want from their classes. It doesn't matter if they want to sing for themselves or thousands, we are here to support them and help them grow.

We are so passionate about seeing our students blossom. There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone find their voice because along with this comes a rediscovery of themselves, their passions, and true fulfillment.

So I want to encourage you all to live a life that you have created, one that you love and enjoy. Challenge yourself, take risks and ask yourself what will make you feel fulfilled.  As Steve Jobs famously said 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
