The CMA artist development program is maybe the best thing I've done in my life. Certainly my singing career. It's a program where the academy really takes you under their wing. It's amazing because I feel like I've gained so many mentors who know so much about the industry and are so enthusiastic to share their experiences and teach me.

Ben Dewhirst, a dedicated guitarist of ten years is at the very beginning of his career and is currently studying Contemporary Music at the Australian Institute of Music in Melbourne (AIM). Dewhirst learns in his second year of AIM that he must “toughen up” in order to endure the first few years of the industry.

Nathan Smart, a multi-potentialite (musician, dancer, producer, manager and video director) buries himself in his work, perfecting each and every little detail of every video, song and routine. His advice for young artists, “don’t have high expectations of the outcome straight away.”

Cass Knowles lives by this mantra, a conspiratorial YouTuber by day and an underground Melbourne rapper by night. She is the very description of a self-doer as her craft is purely her own. Her advice for young artists, “don’t rely on anybody else to do the dirty work for you.”

You never know how a situation will turn out once you’re in it. This is a common day-to-day struggle with young artists in the demanding industry of entertainment and unfortunately the majority learn the hard way.

We interviewed our 17 year old student Coby Sannen about the perks of performing and getting paid to do something she loves…

The bright lights, the big stages, the whispers of the crowd; all of it waiting sidestage in great anticipation of your next performance. Then the nerves set in. You go out on stage, give it all you got, get a nice applause but still find yourself wishing you’d done that little bit better. (Or a lot better!) So how do you make sure you can deliver at your maximum every time? What if there was some simple ways to improve your performance that everyone can do? And what if it had absolutely nothing to do with talent?

But it is incredibly simple to overcome, if you are willing…
